First Time Visitors

Welcome to Blackhawk Children's Ministries! Sunday mornings are the highlight of our week , and we are excited about meeting you and your family when you visit. Below we have all the information that you will need to make your first visit with us a great morning!

We get an amazing opportunity to teach kids about God, and we want you to have a small taste of what they will be experiencing. One of the great things about having multiple services is that we get to offer the kids two different ways to learn and connect to God.

Our 1st Service Sunday School is a traditional Sunday School approach. We have great volunteers that are with our children in the classrooms. The curriculum is chosen specifically to be age appropriate and relevant to our kids' lives. Below we have more specific information about the curriculum for each age group.

Toddler through Kindergarten classes use Group's Hands On curriculum. This a very interactive curriculum that allows for kids to experience the story in a variety of learning styles. Included in the class time are a Bible lesson, craft, activities and snack time.

First through third grade classes use Gospel Light's Primetime and I-Explore curricula. Every week the kids have a Bible lesson that includes a great activity magazine, discussion topics and practical application points.

Our fourth and fifth grade class uses a pre-teen curriculum by Group, Grapple. We have found this to be a great way to engage these kids with Biblical Truth and encourage them to be living out what they are learning. This is often done in a small group setting with the volunteers.

A large part of 2nd Service is spent Kidz' Church. The children start out in their individual classes and then move to the Kidz' Church areas. Kidz' Church incorporates worship and Bible teaching in a large group setting. This is then followed up with small group activities with their teachers back in the classrooms. Kidz' Church is a wonderful way for our kids to begin experiencing a Sunday morning worship service similar to what their parents do. The small group time that follows is useful in helping kids know how to apply what they have learned in Kidz' Church.

Abbe Starr leads our Toddler –Kindergarten Kidz' Church and Havilah Salyer leads our Elementary Kidz' Church. Both of these ladies have a heart for kids and amazing talent for teaching the Word of God to them in creative and practical ways. Our desire for Kidz' Church is that our kids begin understanding the importance of being together as the body of Christ to worship and learn more about Him.

Our fourth and fifth grade class uses Group's Hands On curriculum during 2nd Service.

When can I check in my child?
Teachers are to be in the classrooms 15 minutes prior to the start of each service. You may check in your child at this time.

Who cares for my child?
Children's Ministries has a wonderful team of adult and teen volunteers. All adult volunteers fill out an application and have gone through a background check.

How do I know where my child goes?
There is information here on the website on where each of your children will go and a map to use as a reference. We would also encourage you to stop by the Children?s Ministries Welcome Center located on the first floor by the elevator. You can refer to the map to find us or speak with a greeter in the main lobby of the church.

How do I check in my child?
If this is your first time visiting with us, you will need to fill out a green "Visitor Information" sheet for each child (sheets are located at the Welcome Center or in the classrooms). Infants through 2nd Grade children will be given a visitor nametag and you will be given a security card that matches that nametag. You will need the security card to pick up your child from class. Children in 3rd through 5th grade do not have security cards, but must be picked up in their classroom by a parent.

What if Children's Ministries needs to contact me during the service?
If your child is sick or we need to contact you for any other reason during the service, your child's number (found on your security card) will be put on the screens at the front of the sanctuary.

What happens if there is an emergency?
Children's Ministries has an emergency plan in case of fire or tornado warnings. A written plan and map of the campus is in each classroom.

Who do I contact for more information?
The staff of Children's Ministries is always willing to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to contact us with any comments or concerns.
