Here are a few things coming up in our junior high ministry for grades 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th-grade students . . .
DS3 GROW: Starting Sunday, August 23
Come and join us for DS3 Grow on Sunday mornings from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. We will be located in the auxiliary gym every Sunday. This will be a great time to GROW together as we play games, enjoy some popcorn, worship together, and dive into God’s Word each week.
DS3 EMPOWERED: Starting Wednesday, September 9
We are kicking off this school year with the Raber Farm Event. Raber Address: 22225 Antwerp Road, Harlan, IN 46743 This event is designed to help your student connect, so invite friends, have some fun, and hear a little bit about Jesus. Get your flipflops, swimsuit, and towel ready and come and enjoy the pond, animals, games, and food. Drop off at 6:30 pm and pick up at 8:30 pm. |

SQUAD UP: A 4-WEEK SERIES FROM EPHESIANS ON FRIENDSHIP starting Sunday, August 23
SERIES OVERVIEW:
Everyone wants a squad — a community of people that cares for us, helps and supports us, and gives us a place to belong. In short, we all want to be part of a community that feels like family. That kind of community isn’t easy to come by, but it’s exactly what Jesus had in mind for His followers when the Church first began. In this series, we’ll discover why the word “Church” means something much bigger than a building, we’ll learn what life was like for some of the earliest Christians, and we’ll explore four big ideas that mean as much for us today as they did to the Jesus-followers who lived nearly 2,000 years ago. The truth is, we can all be part of God’s family, and because we’re God’s family, we can do for others what God has done for us, we can grow together, and we can stand strong together.Everyone wants a squad — a community of people that cares for us, helps and supports us, and gives us a place to belong. “Cliques.” For some teenagers (and some adults), a clique is always a bad thing. But should it be? Sometime this month, talk to your kid about their experience with “cliques.” Listen to their stories, and then talk about how to find a balance between building a safe group of trusted friends and continuing to welcome and include others. (But be prepared — this conversation might reveal a conflict you need to help them navigate.)

What is DS3? Here at DS3, we want each student to feel welcomed, accepted, and know that God loves them! Each week in DS3 GROW (Sunday) and DS3 EMPOWERED (Wednesday), we are going to disciple students (DS) through games, worship, teaching, and small groups. It is our prayer that the DS3 youth group will help your student(s) (1) Love God (2) Love Others, and teach them how to (3) Live It Out.
In Matthew 22:37-39, The lawyer asked Jesus what he thought was the greatest commandment, “And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”
In I Timothy 4:12, Paul encourages young Timothy to be an example, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
So, what is DS3? It is a place to faithfully bring your student each week to build community and a place that other Christian leaders will invest in helping your child to love God, love others, and learn how to live it out during his or her teenage years. |
