“To create a church culture where Biblical hospitality is embraced, encouraged, and supported through adoption, foster, and orphan care”
Welcome to Grafted, a ministry at Blackhawk, where our goal is to help create a church culture where Biblical hospitality is embraced, encouraged, and supported through adoption, foster, and orphan care. Grafted is made up of three branches: Safe Families for Children, Lifesong for Orphans, and our Grafted Community Group. We are a community of like-minded individuals who want to live out James 1:27 to the best of our ability. We are led by Wes and Abby Akers, James and Meg Arnold, and Matt and Abby Brandenberger. If you have any question or would like to contact us, please email us at [email protected].
Grafted is composed of three main branches.
Lifesong for Orphans
Grafted and Blackhawk have teamed with Lifesong for Orphans to establish our own Adoption Fund. Lifesong helps administer and manage the fund at no cost, and even helps in the screening process for prospective adopting families. Grafted has raised money for this fund through donations. This money will be used to provide adopting couples at our church financial assistance to help offset the expenses associated with adoption. In the Fall of 2014 we completed a Both Hands Project that helped bring in nearly $20,000 for our fund! Praise the Lord! You can see the video from our project below.
If you are interested in learning more about our Lifesong account, please email us at [email protected]
Grafted LIFE Group
The Grafted Community Group meets on Sunday mornings in the Home Ec room. We are a group of people who want to take an active role in the supporting the Grafted ministry and building a culture of adoption, foster, and orphan care at Blackhawk. The Grafted Class is not just for adoptive or adopting couples. It is for everyone who is interested in seeing James 1:27 lived out. Please consider joining us. We would love to have you!

Safe Families for Children
Safe Families for Children is a national movement of local churches showing biblical hospitality to families in crisis within their community. Volunteers advocate for children and the parents of those children who are in need of temporary assistance because of a life crisis. The mission of the ministry is to see every family united, reconciled and thriving in Christ and supported by the local church family. Volunteers are Host Families who temporarily open their homes to the children and encourage the parents of those children who voluntarily allow their children to be cared for while they get the assistance they need, Family Coaches who counsel and assist the parents and Host Families, Family Friends who seek ways to help the Host Families and family in crisis, and Prayer Partners who diligently pray for the volunteers and families. All volunteers work together for the benefit of the family in crisis and the glory of God.
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” ~ Hebrews 13:2 ESV
“but Jesus said, ;Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'” ~Matthew 19:14 ESV
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;” ~2 Corinthians 5:18 ESV
Blackhawk Ministries is in partnership with Safe Families for Children of Allen County Indiana. Our main needs are for the following volunteers:
