We are excited to have Lisa Davidson & Blake Sebring, author of “Brave at Heart,” at Blackhawk Ministries on January 28, from 10-10:45am.
They will be available in the foyer, between services, to sign your copies! Books will also be available to purchase for $20.
Marc Davidson’s words and his actions will forever impact our Blackhawk community. He impacted our church, our school, our city, and beyond… and at every step, pointed straight to JESUS. [This is an excerpt from a past FYI article written in celebration of Marc’s life. Read the full article HERE.]
When I typed those words 18 months ago, I had no idea that a book was already in the works! What a blessing it is to know that Marc’s “words” and testimony will not only impact those who heard him speak, but will impact generations to come through this inspirational book!
After reading just a few pages from “Brave at Heart,” I was immediately hooked and found myself wanting to read more! Marc Davidson was such a beloved member of our Blackhawk church family and school family… and also a beloved husband, father, son, brother… and coach. His story will touch your heart and inspire you to live each day, giving all the glory to God!
Blake Sebring, the author of “Brave at Heart,” has been a writer and journalist in Fort Wayne for more than 40 years. He has also authored 17 other books. I just heard him on WBCL this morning, sharing about the book and his time spent with Marc and Lisa. [Listen to the full interview HERE.] Sebring explained how he had met with Coach Davidson in March of 2022 to write an article for the Journal Gazette about Davidson’s post game testimonies he would share at center court following each varsity basketball game. It was at that moment when Sebring realized this was more than just a newspaper story. Sebring asked Marc if he had ever thought about writing a book… to which Marc winked and said “well you better hurry!” Over the next 7 weeks, Sebring was able to meet with Marc & Lisa and gather details about their life together, family, basketball, and their faith in Jesus.
For those of you who didn’t have the opportunity to know Marc Davidson personally, below is an excerpt from a recent Journal Gazette article Sebring wrote about the book, giving a small glimpse into Marc’s story and the main message behind “Brave at Heart.” [Read the full article HERE.]
“God put the urgency on his heart, and like any coach giving a fantastic pregame speech, Marc said, “Let’s do this!” and charged out of the locker room ready to take this last chance and share it all with whomever would listen.
Cancer provided the perfect way to reach out to those around him and ask them to join him, not in his upcoming death, but in his coming eternal life with Christ. This book allows his message to continue.
…
For the last 19 months of his life, Marc Davidson knew he was dying from terminal cancer. But during every minute of those days, he taught everyone around him how to live a godly life, how to lean into adversity to present an example, and how to encourage growth in his own faith by sharing it with others.
That’s the theme of the book “Brave at Heart” with the goal of allowing Marc’s message to reach a little further after he passed away on May 9, 2022, at age 49.“

His favorite Bible verse is from Colossians, “All things heartily unto the Lord.”
“I’ve used that verse so many times on myself, on my kids, on kids that I’ve coached … ,” he says, totally relaxed leaning back into his office chair. “Everybody has heard me use that verse, usually with the little things, the simple, the mundane, the routine, that there’s a purpose in everything and doing them well. I’ve been using that verse lately to relate to big things like dying. That’s a big thing. I’ve never thought of Colossians 3:23 as it relates to dying until about three weeks ago, and I’ve been thinking about it a lot since.”
