1 John 5:1-12
Victorious Christianity
- “Jesus always meets us where we are but never leaves us there.” How does Jesus’ interaction with the woman caught in adultery illustrate this truth? (John 8:1-11)
- How does the use of the word “all” in 2 Timothy 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:27a and 2 Peter 3:9 offer encouragement today?
- “Victory often comes through apology”. In this time of physical distancing, how might you practice this this week?
- What does it mean that God’s commands are not “burdensome”? (1 John 5:3) Look up this verse in some other translations at biblegateway.com and find some different ways to express that.
- “God’s love compels us to choose who we are over what we want.” How are those two realities fighting within you these days? How does 1 John 5:4 speak what is possible in this struggle?
- “Constraints breed creativity.” How might this season be an opportunity for you to love and serve in victory in creative ways?
- Why does John take time in 1 John 5:6-8 to talk about the true identity of Jesus? What difference does it make?
- Who is the “star witness” in 1 John 5:9,10?“What you believe about Jesus is life’s most important decision”. Why is this the case? What does John think about who Jesus is? Why should we care about what John thinks about Jesus?
- What is the ultimate verification of our faith? Why?
- “Eternal life is not something that begins the day you die; it begins the moment you meet Jesus.” (1 John 5:11,12) How do these verses reflect that truth? How might that impact the choices you make this week?
