8. From the beginning, God wanted humans in community with other humans (Genesis 2:18). How has your life benefited from being in community with others? What lessons have you learned from observing someone with whom you have been in community?
9. Galatians 6:2 calls us to bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ, which is to love as Jesus loved. What are some different ways to bear one another’s burdens? Do you find it difficult to bear someone else’s burdens? Do you find it difficult to let other’s share your burdens?
10. Bearing someone’s burden may mean helping them fulfill their calling from the Lord. Who do you know with a big Kingdom burden? What is their burden and how could you come alongside them and support them as they follow their calling (e.g. Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ arms in Exodus 17)?
11. In John 13:34, Jesus commands us to “love one another as I have loved you.” List several ways Jesus has loved us and a corresponding way we can love others similarly.
12. Pastor Kevin led us through several passages in Acts that showed the steady growth of the early church. In Acts 2:46 and 5:42 it tells us that the early church met daily in the temple and then in people’s homes. Why might the combination of gathering as a whole and then connecting in smaller groups in homes have been particularly effective for multiplication? How have you benefited from the combination of gathering and connecting here at Blackhawk?
13. John 15 is part of a lengthy discourse where Jesus taught and built up his disciples. Their community together turned them from servants to friends. Jesus shared with them all the plans the Father had for him. If you’ve been in a small group or LIFE group, how did the relationships change as they got more personal? Did you let people in on the plans God had for your life? Did the depth of your knowledge of each other influence the depth of the relationships?
14. Pastor Kevin noted LIFE groups are Blackhawk’s primary avenue for care. How has your LIFE group, or small group you are involved with in a different setting, provided you with love/care/connection/shepherding? If you are not in a LIFE group, how might consistent fellowship with a small group of believers provide you with love/care/connection/shepherding?
15. How has the unity and togetherness of your LIFE group or small group demonstrated Jesus’ love to others outside the group? Has your “one anothering” been visible to the world? If so, how has it been received?
16. How has your involvement in a LIFE group or small group born fruit in your life? How has it deepened your relationship with Jesus?
17. Pastor Kevin outlined the pathway FROM community: Independence—>Isolation—>Individualism… are you prone to do life alone? Do you struggle with opening up to your LIFE group about your ups and downs, fears and failures, triumphs and joys? What could you do to make yourself more open and connected with your LIFE group?
18. Pastor Kevin outlined the pathway TO Community: Honest—>Humility—>Harmony… what do you need to get honest about with God and others? How may your LIFE group or small group come around you to encourage and build you up (1 Thessalonians 5:11)?
